WALT: Reflect about 2018

2018 was a rough year, with the camp fundraiser to Christmas in the park. We all had our up and down with people we liked and then left. But though all of this hard work we managed to still have an amazing year.

If I could describe 2018 in 3 words it would be Crazy, Fantastic and most of all stressed. The reason I said this year is making me stressed is because we always have to be up to date with our blogs, and when we have to do a lots of dancing and songs while making it perfect! But it was Fantastic because of all the trips we went on like Camp raglan, Pools, and more! 

This year I have made a big achievement and that achievement is being way more confident than I was before, I am way more confident with other peers and like to work with people who I usually don't work with. I discovered that I really like Abseiling, Abseiling was so fun and at the end we were swimming in the waterfall but the downside of when we went abseiling is that I lost my voice yelling at Kensington to stop because it was he was ahead and I also got pushed in the waterfall because we I was going to go off I wasn't there yet and got pushed into the waterfall that fell like 10 inches. 

 I've learnt a new skill about myself, and the new skill is that I am able swim faster than I did before thanks to the Pools trips. But what I really like about the all the trips is my friends with are always there and they are Akih, Faafiu, Carra, Taonga and sometime Fine. It is always fun when they are around and I feel way more confident with them. I Just want to thank my mum and dad for paying for all these trips, and other things you pay for like my lunch, my uniform and shoes and clothes without yous I wouldn't be here today, so thank you you mum and dad. And my next step is to trying and improve so I can be a student leader and making sure I am always doing patrols
 even though I missed 3 times because I was sick.

  • Choose five key vocabulary and phrases from the list provided, and find the meaning or the definition of these key vocabulary and phrases.Show your understanding of these vocabulary and phrases by using them all in a factual statement about traps for pests.

  • Lure Meaning - A lure is when you tempt someone to do something or go somewhere, but mostly when you offer them something.When they were trying to find something to Lure the Possum, they found out that possums really like cinnamon. So when they were making their trap they used cinnamon to Lure the possums.

  • Inflated - Inflated means when something is expand using air or gas.
A guy name Craig Bond was stuck of thinking ways to power a new pest trap. He went out for a while and decided to use his bike but he got a flat tyre, a stranger offered a help to pump up the tyre using a small canister of compressed gas. Within seconds, the tyre was inflated ... and that’s when he had an idea,without the man he could have been stuck.

  • Stowaways Meaning - a person who stows away on a passenger vehicle.
When the maori’s found New Zealand there were stowaway which catched a ride. Stowaway were rats that climbed aboard when they went to find New Zealand/New Island. Rats weren’t part of New Zealand native animals, even cows, pigs, and more like cats, and dogs.

  • Durable Meaning- It is when something is long lasting, i’d even when it is pressured or damaged.
In the text they were talking about the trap and how they want it to be long lasting and durable, so we are use it implitple times, instead of buying another, after another.

  • Predators Meaning - a predator is an animal that eats other animals (which is called a meat eater), it can be weak or small or even another animals egg, some predators eats its own kind such as a praying mantis, black widow spider,sand tiger shark and more other animals..The article shows how possums and stoats where brought to New Zealand by europeans. It has be found that possums and stoats prey on baby birds and baby eggs, they also eat a huge amount of trees, that can stress the trees so much that it eventually dies. This animal can prevent lest food for native birds, it also prevent regrowth.

How has an environmental issue influenced technology?

Less native bird and other native animals haven’t been killed because of the pest trap that was being made. The pest trap is killing lots of New Zealand’s predators which is lowering extinction of our native animals.. πŸ˜ΊπŸΊπŸ€

What sorts of animals do we have in New Zealand?
Here are  sort of animal that we have in our country;
  • Kiwi bird,some a kiwi bird is national sweetheart and a lovely bird in our country, although this bird cannot fly.

  • Lesser short-tailed Bat, Lesser short-tailed Bat or pekapeka is an important animal in New Zealand because it’s the only mammal in New Zealand.

  • Hector dolphins, only found in New Zealand’s waters, this distinctive grey dolphin with black and white markings and a round dorsal fin is the most easily recognised species of dolphin in New Zealand.

Image result for panmure poolsI went in my dad's car with my brother and my nephew as my sisters were in my mums car. We were going to the pools, mostly because it was a really hot day. The drinks at the back were heating up because of the hot sun, but because of my dad's amazing driving skills we got there quick.

We went to the back of the pools because the front was packed. We went to the back of the pools and parked, we grabbed all our stuff and walked to the inside of the pools. Me and my sister's gave the food to our mum, dad and brother because they weren't going get changed yet. I went to the toilet to get changed mostly because I hate changing in front of people. We finally changed into our togs, and went to our spot where we put our food. I went in the bag to take out a sandwich, I didn't want a drink, chips or others things, just a sandwich I had to be quick though because we were going to go in the pool.

I jumped in the deep part of the pool and insteadly I regretted it. It was so cool, I felt like I was in the arctic oceans but not literally. I eventually got used to it and started to have fun! Paige keeps picking me up and pushing me down, that's what we usually do at the pools. 1 hour later I started to if hungry, I got out of the pool and at some cookies and had a drink, I jumped back into the pool to do some challenges, 1 by 1 we had to push off the wall and wherever we stop is how far we went. We weren't allowed to kick our feet or hands, only push off the wall, I won once and that was because I cheated they never knew.

We all went to eat and after that we packed our things and got changed. After we all got changed we walked to the car and went home. I Jumped on the bed and fell asleep it was a fun day.

The wind rushed through her hair as she descended the mountain at great speed. For most children this would be an exhilarating, even 
terrifying experience, but for Lucy it was just an ordinary journey to school.

Her house was on top of the mountain making her journey to school dangerous. She got used to it eventually but she is still scared it might break. She arrived at her school, saying Good morning to her teacher as she sat down at her desk. She looked to the classroom door to see that her friend Milla has arrived! She smiled as Milla came to sit next to her. Lucy loved her school, because nothing bad ever happened thanks to Master Bruce Lee. 

Bruce as we all all him for short, always looked after the school and taught us Martial arts, on Mondays and friday for P.E but not all the time he usually comes in to check on us. She went to look in her bag to find a pencil. All she saw was rulers, books, coloring pencils and rubbers, but no pencils. Her school wasn't an ordinary school, it was quite unique, with it's beautiful ponds and flowers but her school was made with a rare type of wood which would not let bad energy pass through.

One day we had a new teacher come through, his name was Collin and he was to take over Bruce because one of his grandma passed on. Lucy didn't get a good vibe around him so she keeped an eye on him. The next day Master Bruce Lee arrived to school early. The funeral was short that why he came back early, but because none of the teacher knew he was coming back that early, so Collin was still at the school. When Bruce entered the room and saw Collins he stared at him when a evil look, Collins looked back I backed up with terrier.

Master Bruce Lee took out his sword, and told him to get out. No one knew that Mr. Collins had secretly put a sword in the classroom just incase he did arrive unexpectedly. Lucy, Milla and all the other classroom kids ran out of the room knowing things are going to go down. Mr Collins slide down the desk and grabbed the sword and tried to hit Bruce Lee but he failed, Bruce lee blocked the attack knowing he would go for the legs. 



BANG! BOOM! CRASH! We all sat in the hallway worrying who is going to come up on top. "AHHHHH" Collins screamed in agony. We all were scared for our lives, thinking about is he really going to kill someone in our own class! Enough was enough, Lucy opened the door to see Bruce Lee sword against Collins neck. Lucy screamed "BRUCE STOP!" They both stared at her "Go back to the hall" Bruce said, "NO, ARE YOU REALLY GONNA KILL SOMEONE" Lucy screamed "If I have to yes" Bruce said in a calm voice "Then you would never be welcomed anywhere!" Lucy started to walk out of the classroom. 

He signed and let collins go with a bloody nose. Lucy was so happy but she had to leave because her mum and dad are taking her somewhere. After that, everything was normal ever since. 


At The Moment... Turning Old Into New

For the last 50 minutes, I have been working on turning old thing into new. It is a reading task and we have to answer the question to slide 10, 11 and 13. I was finishing off slide 13 because me and my buddy Carra did slide 10, and now we are doing a slide each, she has slide 11 as I have slide 13.

I had to answer question about what we can make into new and what is the definition of natural resources. I have almost finished it but I just need to do the question about microfiber. It is a hard question because I have to find out if there is a type of technology or invention if it could solve the problem with microfibers. But if I do a lot of research I might just find the answer!

Today we are learning to form an opinion about the topic. The first topic is, should 10 year olds be able to drive? Well I disagree with the statement because 10 year olds are not mature enough with could make them have a car crash. It would also increase traffic, specifically when overpopulation is a issue on earth with a number of 7-8 billion people on earth. I also disagree with the statement because some 10 year olds are colorblind, the reason I am bringing this up is because the traffic lights has 3 colors, right? Well if you are colorblind you wouldn't know when to go or when to stop because it is a different color to the real color.

The next statement is, should school have school rules? Some people agree and most people disagreed. I disagree because it would cause fights, and people would bring phones, toys, tablets would take them off task. Kaleb said "If a special person does come, we could be as nice as we ever were" Well I disagree with that statement because if there is no school rules I don't think anyone would show up to school, they would go to shops and other places other than school. So even if a special person comes i bet a little people would come to school well only be there to mark the rule, mostly because if they are not their and their mum knows they're at school, then she will get a notification that her child isn't at school, so if the child is there when the teacher is marking the roll it would show up that her child is at school. But I also disagree with the statement because then it would create violence, and the school would possible close down.

ASTRIA GAME

WALT: Find and investigate the text/game.

Today in class we are going to be doing a game called Astria. We are going to be the first people to play and it was created by Auckland University. 

We were in buddies and I was with Aletheia. We were given a slip which had a game name which was Explorer and the code. We clicked the link and waited for it to load. It took quite a long time, to load but after it finished loaded the first thing I saw was the background. It had 3 planets with lots of stars. After that we added in our codes and name. We started off with some examples I am guessing because I didn't really know what was the purpose of it, but after that we went to the watchtower.

It was fun but we had to do lot of reading. And when we had to find the clues, it really made me and my partner think. When we found out we had to make a new game, we were worried we weren't going to finish the game. With some help from the teachers, we got back we were left off. It was day 80 something. We were almost finish, only 2 more to go. We realized that in each room there are 2 text. We went through all of them and finally we got it! We were done. We finally went to the council.

We went to the council and add to present which one we were going to use. We ended up using the Sail to destroy the astrorad other than the nuke. We ended up killing no one, but if we were to do the nuke it would've kill multiple lifes.

Today we are going to be using our analysis skill to Critically analyse still images.

We are going to be answering question about this photo, for example, what's the message in this image? Now that I gave you an idea, lets start all the questions.


Who took the photo?
I believe it is a person who is taking a photo of their everyday life, or I think it is a tourist taking pictures of what the city looks like, and what people do their, kind of like a Photographer. A Photographer is someone who takes picture in exchange for money, mostly if they are a professional.

How Is The Subject Represent In The Photo?
I think it is about pollution. I think it is about pollution because as you can see a little boy is jumping off rubbish into another pile of rubbish. And if you look at the background you can see dirty building with smoke and more rubbish all over the country or city.

How Do Different Parts Of The Image Contribute To The Message?
Well because their are probably thousand of pieces of rubbish, and gas or smoke. Mostly because of the kid playing in the rubbish. I think that he thinks that it's a playground but people he has been living in a polluted place he is used to it because he has lived their his whole life.

What If The Image Was Cropped?
Well if it was cropped i'd think they would crop out the whole thing, 'You know why?' Well because If they would to crop our everything but the boy and added a playground. it would look like a boy just playing on a playground instead of rubbish, but only if they did a good job.

Who Might The Intended Audience Be?
Other little kids because it's a playground where they play?? (Sorry I am Confused By This Question)

How Might Different Groups Of People Responded To The Image?
I think their response would be like this. "Aww, poor kid. Wow look at all the rubbish. How could they live like that? Why does he look so happy playing on rubbish?"

Image result for MathsToday for maths we are going to be doing maths. I grabbed my book and a pencil. I saw that my math sheet wasn't in my maths book so I looked in my locker, as I was looking for my sheet of paper, Kensington took my pencil. I look back to see Kensington look at me weirdly, I was confused at first but then I saw that my pencil was gone. I Went to my locked and grabbed my pen. I still couldn't find my sheet until I saw a maths sheet, I said oh it's mine without looking at the paper, and it was mine.

I looked at the math sheet paper and got confused on the math question I was on, I asked Fa'afiu and she told me what I had to do. I did half until she said she was going to help me. What we have to do is that there is a Letter next to the question we add the answer the question and find the answer to the question. Once we've found it we had to put the letter that was next to it on top of the number. 

Carra just catched up to us and we did the question together, we do one each and if we get struck if have to help them but not do it for them, then they wouldn't learn anything. But I would improve on in maths is to learn to times decimal which is the next step, and what i've enjoyed about math is working together as a team to solve questions.

Now days phones have changed so much from past to future. Social media’s was used by so many, whether young or old..  The future phones would be so different and would be so expensive or in high quality. Phones would be in long battery, it would last for weeks till to charge(imagine that!) also you wouldn't need any power port or outlets to charge, in the future you will use plug wireless charging port for phone and u can be a distance away from the wireless charger, also in any object or stuff your phone will charge (how crazy is that!) Phones will have foldable screens, if you want to stretch out the screen then u can now. For phones screens would be 3D Holographic(WOW!)Phones would be so indestructible phone. You can also use indoor gps(Amazing!) You will have 2 sim cards for your phone. No phone numbers, Wow! I can’t wait for the future.

Back in the old days there used to be brick phones, they didn’t have games on it or snapchat, facebook or any social media we have now-a-days. They only had numbers to call people with. Rotary dial or rotary telephone was the oldest phones ever create. The creator of the first telephone was Alexander graham bell, and hes quote is. “When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us”
How Has Technology Changed Our Lives
Image result for People with phonesTechnology has come a long way. Brick phones to Iphone xs plus with amazing quality, technology has really changed! Now how do they affect on how we live? Well it helps with our spelling our punctuation and more. It also helps us develop our researching skill and gain new knowledge! It helps answer questions, and others.

WALT: Add And Subtract Decimals.

Today for maths we are finishing off our maths sheet, which is adding and subtracting decimals. I am on activity 3, and most of that side is subtracting because of the other side is all addition. 
I am working on Part 6 of activity 3. It was hard because it was really confusing but my classmates helped me out now I think I got this.

It was easy on some part but hard on others. Next time I would like to try and do time tables instead of adding and subtracting decimals. Thank you to Carra, Akih, Fa'afiu for helping me with my work, that is showing manaakitanga and ako.  Here is one of the question we had to do. 
28.4 + 26.8=55.2 because 4+8=12 then add the 10 tenths to the 8 one with makes it 9 ones and leave the 2 in the tenth spot. Now add the 8 and the 6 which makes 15 add the 1 to the 2 and leave the 5. Now do 3+2 which is 5. So the answer is 55.2

WALT: Have An Opinion

We are learning about should we give pest more respect or should we get rid of pests, such as cats possum and other predators? The reason they want to get rid of pest/predators is because they are killing our native animals and environment. Here is my opinion.

disagree and agree because at the same time cats help us. For example, the cats kill mice which, mice are also predators. But I agree that when animals are hungry, that they would have to hunt for food which is killing our native animals. But I don't know if spiders are predators mostly because spiders eat pest, like  Earwigs, Roaches and other pest.

New Zealand is known for there native animals and environment, I can see why they would want all the predators out of New Zealand. Dr Jane Goodall has agreed with keeping the predators or pest in New Zealand because she believes that we should show kindness to all animals. If you didn't know pigs are way smarter than dogs and cats, but we are killing them? I think all animals should have equal rights.

Te Tuhi

Today for learning we are going to Te Tuhi! Room 1 went first and when they came back, it was our turn. We got into a line and walked to the bus. The girls went on first, then the boys. Onc we got to Te Tuhi we lined up and Ms. Komor told us to be on our best behaviour.

We saw Salome and she guided us to the Art room, where we are going to be doing our Abstract. We walked in, grabbed an apron and find a sit. Salome started to tell us the different abstract art from other Artist. After that she showed us what we are going to be doing. There were templates on the table of different technology, for example, Phone, Tv, Controller and more. 

We first grabbed a pencil, and choose 4 design of our chose. Then we sketched around it and added that extra detail. Then we draw 5 lines once we have done sketching our drawings. After that we outlined it with a vivid. And started without paint. We only were allowed 4 colors but some but don't know how to follow instructions and did more than 4. I chose white, blue, red and yellow. The rule is that you can have the same color next to each other.

I found it hard because I alway had to make sure the same color wasn't next to each other, and I keep forgetting to stop washing the paint brush even though I am going to use the same color. What I also found hard was that it was difficult to stay in the lines, I would most of the time go out of the line. And the thing I would like to improv on is to stay in the lines.






What Is Technology

Today we are learning about technology and how it affect us. First, table by table we said one technology we use at home, but first we talked about it in our groups. Here is some of the things we said. Clock, car, microwave, vacuum, deep fryer and etc. Once we all talked about it then Ms. Komor went to each table and asked "What technology do you have at home?" 3 minutes past and it was my turn, I had lots of ideas but they just popped out of my head so I looked at the board and saw hair straightener, then I thought of hair curler and that's what i've said. 

After everyone said one, we had to make a definition on what Technology means, with the people in our table we discussed on what should the WALT should be. Star said "Technology is something that make life easier for mankind" And Carra and Akih said "Something that is used daily" 10 minutes later Ms. Komor asked "Who would like to have a try?" Demetrius went first he said "Something that we use daily" but Technology doesn't have to be used everyday, then we watched a video to see what Technology meant, something that is created by humans that can be useful and solve problems, so we changed the WALT and definition to "Technology is something that is useful for a purpose" 

Ms. Komor told us to move all the chairs and tables away and get into a semi circle around the T.V. Once we got into a semi circle and watch a video about different types of Technology the first one was medical technology if we knew one we raised our hand I was about to say one but then someone already said it. We ran out of ideas and moved to the next one which is Transportation, people said Bike, bus, train, car and taxi. Biotechnology is plants so I said watering can and others said shovel and more.

My First Blog Of Term 4 2018

What I did In The Holiday!


WALT: Write A Blog About What You Did In The Holidays

In the holidays I went to the beach with my brother and his friend, we packed our togs and a towel and went to point england beach! The tide wasn't in so we went to the cliff where we found the word SAMONA written on the side. The tide was 15 steps away but we were scared. There are lots of crabs and when I found a huge crab we insteadly ran down the cliff, down the stairs and jumped into the sad and ran to the rock. We call it "The rock" because it's a huge rock but it has 4-5 holes with water in it, we stayed there for a while but then it got boring so we went to the park but first we changed back into our clothes and played on the park but the clouds started to turn to grey so we walked home quickly but because we are so lucky, it rains when we were halfway there, so we ran home and got into dry clothes.

In the holidays my dad friends children came over, we played fortnite, minecraft, rocket league and other. When it turned to 11 pm we started to play hide n seek Justin counted first, me and Jamie hid behind the sheet that was on the line outside, we saw Leon thinking he was looking if Justin was playing we saw him again but this time with Justin he said "FOUND YOU!" We ran back to the sheet and when we got there look pulls back the sheet and laughed. It was getting real cool so we went back inside, I was drawing as there where playing games.

What I'm Looking Forward To Term 4
I am looking forward to working with my classmates and learning new things this term. I'm also looking forward to Athletics, Flag football, and our next topic for this term! The reason I am excited for flag football I loved playing this when I was younger so I am excited to play and challenge myself!

What I Want To Improve On This Term
Image result for MathI want to improve on my Math and spelling, because when I do maths, I sometimes get confused but because we are going to be focusing on decimal, I believe I am going to do well because last year when I was in room 7 we did decimal! Spelling because I know most words. But there is really hard words I can't spell even if I sound it out, so that's what i'll improve on. Writing i'm good at but I want to add more detail to my work and to do that I need to learn new words that can make my stories and my poems even better!
